Automobile industry to be Africa’s hub: a substitution to imports –Ofori-Atta

  Government intends to use the development in the automobile industry as a catalyst for import substitution and exports of Ghanaian products within the African region. Speaking at the Mid-Year Policy Review in Parliament, Finance Minister said the automobile industry is considered by government as a strategic anchor and one that has the potential to transform the economy. “Ghana is well positioned to become the new automobile manufacturing hub in Africa”, Ken Ofori-Atta stated. Giving details on the sector, he said “the Ministry of Trade and Industry policy on Industrial Transformation Agenda is a significant step towards import substitution and to boost exports within the context of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA)”. Dettol installs 15 handwashing station in Accra markets

Reckitt Benckiser, manufacturers of Dettol range of products, has installed 15 handwashing units at popular markets across Accra to enforce adherence to safety protocols in order to effectively combat COVID-19. According to the global consumer goods company, the aim of the initiative is to rekindle among market women the need to continue strictly with the adherence of the COVID-19 protocols without any compromise as the positive cases in the country drops drastically so as to avoid a second spike. NIC talks tough on Compulsory Fire insurance

  The National Insurance Commission (NIC) will soon hit the metropolitan and district business enclaves of the country to intensify its sensitization and enforcement drive on the compulsory property insurance. This was disclosed by the Commissioner of Insurance, Mr Justice Yaw Ofori in a recent statement.   He indicated that though the Insurance Law, Act 724 of 2006 made it compulsory for privately owned business entities to insure their properties, many are yet to comply. The law, per Sections 183 and 184, makes it mandatory for all commercial properties either under construction or completed, to have valid insurance certificates. The compulsory property insurance is to provide financial protection against legal liabilities arising from accidents that cause property damage, bodily injury or death to the public. The automotive industry: …a burgeoning market for investment

These were the words of the President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo when the German car maker Volkswagen officially unveiled its first ever range of locally assembled cars. The VW story was birthed in 2018 when the German Chancellor Angela Merkel visited Ghana to strengthen diplomatic and development ties. This saw the German car manufacturer VW, become the first company to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ghanaian government for the assembling of vehicles in the country.
