One Big Family, others celebrate 85th Ada Asafotufiami Festival

  It was all excitement when several clans, families and culture lovers fully graced the maiden youth involvement of the annual Ada Asafotufiami Festival of the Dangme people of the Ada Traditional Area. One Big Family - a non-governmental organisation which has become one of the most loved groups in Ada for gathering all clans, families of the Ada Traditional Area and friends from the diaspora - quickly changed the status quo of non-involvement of youth plans in the celebration of the festival to make it a fully youth involved-programme; and it was wonderful to see several groups of youth gather to share a common platform and vision. Prez opens Nissan’s brand-new state-of-the art assembly plant

  The president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has officially opened the brand-new state-of-the art Nissan Navara assembly plant in Tema which has the capacity to produce 11,593 units of vehicles per shift per annum . The plant is the culmination of a journey that began in 2018 when Nissan became the first mover in the country to sign a memorandum of understanding with the government to work towards creating the Ghana Automotive Development Policy. Nissan selected Japan Motors, one of its two long standing distributors in the country, as its licenced assembler in 2020. Work on the 5000 sq. m plant began shortly afterward and today, 17 months later, the plant was officially commissioned by the president as the first Navaras began rolling off the assembly lines.   A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed virtually between 12 Automotive Associations within the ambit of the EU – Africa Business Forum 2022 on 16 February with the aim of driving the development of the Automotive Industry in Africa. The Automotive sector whilst key for the industrialisation of Africa is often associated with several challenges including, persistent market fragmentation, lack of regulatory alignment between African countries and the two continents, industrial and trade policies not conducive to local and foreign investment, lack of access to finance for consumers, local suppliers, and affordability. However intra-African trade can be bolstered and diversified by developing a Pan African Auto Pact, which aims to expand the African new vehicle market from 1 to 5 million units and connecting African regions for the common good.
