Image
He became known after 1013 and 1014 Laughs for his rib cracking jokes and comical gestures. Despite the bitter pills life gave him as a child, the lanky and stylish Nigerian comedian who lives in Ghana has scaled the hurdles of life. He is not only making a name for himself, but doing his country proud. In this interview, Gabriel Hogan (his real name) opens up on how his career began and where he hopes to go.   So what was growing up like? Growing up?   I was born with a silver spoon but at the age of nine, I lost it to a fight (laughs). I was born to a single mother, so I had to grow up with different parents.   Growing up with mum was sweet and interesting, but with dad it was tough. After high school I had to begin to fend for my self.   I gained admission into the university on three different occasions, but there was no money to go to school. I thank God for my uncles who kept telling me to keep fighting and never allow the bitterness of life get to me. In 2005, I go

Critical News and Logorligi Pilgrimage to Jubilee Flagstaff

The man: Sydney CASELY-HAYFORD I found myself in Akosombo this weekend. Not by design, I happened to be going elsewhere and ended up there. So I decided to stay and find out whether what ECG is saying that VRA has no energy to supply is true. Motorway drive is risky, you have to be very vigilant, the Trotros and rickety trucks stop all through the distance, you would think it was a rest stop to Tema. At 11am when I got to the end of the motorway, there was a traffic jam. For no reason. All 4x4 Prados and Land Cruisers riding the side roads with as much impunity as Chris Brown smoking wee in the face of Ohene Djan. By the time I hit the Afienya road, I had killed a full 45 minutes of my time. Funny thing, I thought I could see the Flying School from the road, but there were so many kiosks lining the sides, I saw nothing. Is it still there? A relic of my youth, gone? Anyway, the Afienya road was a pot-holed variety of asphalt corn roll where it merged with deep-pitted red dirt, as i

At the Ghana Economic Forum 2013

Image
This year's Ghana Economic Forum saw speeches of great wisdom. The Ghana Economic Forum 2013 under the theme “The Role of Leadership in Driving National Economic Prosperity”, created a lively debate among industry chieftains, government functionaries, Members of the Diplomatic Corps and Civil Society Leaders among others, who met in session and brainstormed on propelling the economic   prosperity of the nation. This year’s event is a follow-up to the maiden edition that was held last year with a view to setting the country’s economic prosperity by engaging stakeholders to deliberate on economic development, devoid of any ‘political’ colouration.   The event was held at the Movenpic Ambassador Hotel, Accra-Ghana. There was an overflow of audience both from near and far at the venue. Understanding the Ghana leadership challenge has become difficult,   I share the views expressed by the panelists and delegates and hope leadership will be up and doing to help solve the num

Choice to Reckon

Welcome to another brand new year! I know there are times in life that you feel as though you can't do anything right and you never seem to be able to please anyone and everyone around you seem to always go against you. You may feel stupid, unworthy, and even unloved. These feelings may lead you to hate yourself or those around you. Hate leads to nothing but pain. Pain only causes more pain and nothing good comes of it. At some point in life, I started to notice others judging me. I discovered not everyone liked me and that some individuals felt the need to express this dislike not only to me, but to everyone around me. This action makes me feel bad about myself and to others too and we respond by judging them back. This defense mechanism took hold of our lives and became habit. We took this habit and made it such a part of our being that now we find it very difficult to separate this from who we are. Our anger at others can be so great and our habit of getting back at ot
