Ada Asafotu-Fiami Festival promises excitement

It is usually the most exciting moment to be in Ada. The Asafotu-Fiami is the festival of the people of Ada in the Dangme East District of Greater-Accra Region.  The festival, which features a rich cultural display, is celebrated annually in the first week of every August in Big-Ada, under the auspices of the Paramount Chief of the Ada Traditional Area.

The festival attracts over thousands of people from all walks of life to come together to enjoy the rich cultural display and hospitality of the people of Big Ada, the traditional capital.

As this year's celebration nears, Paramount Chief of the Area  Nene Akuaku III is calling on the inhabitants of Ada , well-wishers as well as people from the Diaspora to come and be part of this year’s Asafotufiam festival.

Highlights of this year's celebration includes traditional prayers on Thursday August 1, and then on  Friday, there will be a visit to the sacred forest at Luhuese, Ada, where rituals will be performed. This will be followed by firing of muskets and cleansing of feet and gathering of all divisional chiefs at Kpomkpo Panya,  a place close to the river bank at Big-Ada.

And then on Saturday, there will be a grand durbar of chiefs at the Big-Ada Presby Park, where government officials and dignitaries are expected to grace the occasion. After close of the function for the day, the Paramount Chief, Divisional chiefs, Asafoatseme, Elders and the people, return home accompanied by the Youth Associations and benevolent societies with songs, drumming and jubilation and dancing.

There will be thanksgiving service on Sunday of non-denominational open air churches at the Big-Ada Presby Park. The climax of the festival n Sunday will feature several activities such as a canoe regatta, beach parties, football matches, as well as traditional drumming and dancing.

There will be a special cruise on River Volta from Ada-Foah Highways through to Kpomkpo Panya at Big-Ada to Sogakope. There will be lots of entertainment on the cruise as organisers have lined-up several musicians to entertain the crowd. Later in the evening, Dancehall artiste Stonebwouy will be headlining a concert at the Club Rubstone with other artistes.
The celebrations will continue into the following week with several exciting recreational activities also lined-up
