Event Vendors Association Ghana unveiled
Event Vendors Association Ghana (EVAG), a body that
will provide the platform for operators in the events industry to synergise and
pool resources from each other, has been launched in Accra.
The event, which was held at the Red Carpet Event
Centre, East Legon, saw the unveiling of the management members/executives and
channels for pooling resources as well as regulations to guide the organisation.
EVAG aims at organising event vendors around the
country, ensuring delightful delivery to clients, promoting and encouraging the
highest level of ethics within the events industry and managing the sector to
high standards, as well promoting professionalism with high quality service
delivery.
The association will be an umbrella body for all
individuals in the event industry, with appropriate legal and ethical methods in
resolving issues, negotiating on behalf of members and promoting activities of
the events industry.
The launch event was attended by event organisers,
the Creative Arts Council, MUSIGA, Ghana Tourism Board and other industry
stakeholders.
The President of EVAG, Kate Hassan, said: “the
Event Vendors Association Ghana is open to all vendors and suppliers who are
engaged in the events management business.
It also looks to those who are in the business as
full members while students who have just graduated from master classes or apprenticeship
will join as associate members.”
She added that Event Planners, Decorators,
Coordinators, Rental Services, Caterers, Bakers, MCs, Disc Jockeys, Graphic Designers, Photographers, Videographers,
Make-up Artistes, Hair stylists and others can all join the association to help
build a better industry.
Mrs. Hassan, who has almost two decades
of experience in the event industry, emphasised that to enhance the quality of
work of members, the association will place a premium on training and
mentorship.
The formation of EVAG, she said, became necessary
because there is the need to regulate and train industry players because most
event organisers are ignorant of the requirements on them and so they end up
spoiling people’s occasions.
“We have to train people on how to become a good
Master of Ceremony (MC), for instance, because you go
to some weddings and you see the MC spoiling the occasion by advertising
themselves and selling themselves ahead of the people they are to promote or
work for. So, we must control the space,” she said.
The elected executives mandated to
manage the affairs of the association include: Kate Hassan as President; Ato
Kwamena as Vice President; Christine Aku-Shika as 2nd Vice
President; Krofah Acheampong as Secretary; Milay Mika Shelley as 1st
Assistant Secretary
and Christabelle Afiyo Cann-Tamakloe as
2nd Assistant Secretary.
