SUNU Assurance unveils innovative mobile application





SUNU Assurance Company, one of the fastest-growing non-life underwriting firms in the country, has developed an application that will make buying insurance easier for its numerous clients.

The application runs on a special short code - *711*733# - on all mobile handsets. Dialling the short code allows customers to purchase motor insurance from the comfort of their home at anytime and anywhere.

Prince Yemi Adetuwo, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of SUNU Assurance Ghana, unveilled this application at the National Awards Ceremony for agents in Accra last week.

The event brought together various stakeholders from all over the regions to receive various awards, ranging from vehicles, cash prizes and paid trips for two to Paris.

The MD/CEO pointed out that the Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD), also known as short code, is a global system for mobile (GSM) Communication Technology that is used to send a text between mobile phones; and said that SUNU’s product is the first of its kind in the insurance industry.

Christened ‘Ezibuy’, it allows payment on all platforms including Mobile Money, VISA and Master Cards - and is expected to give genuine motor insurance. It also helps in verification of SUNU Assurance Ghana Motor Insurance Policy, in addition to building a reliable database of SUNU’s customers.

The platform will also be used for the distribution of travel insurance policies and other tariff-based policies.

In addition, SUNU can also leverage on its customer database through the channel to pursue other lines of insurance business.

Meanwhile, Abraham Bagulo drove home a brand-new Suzuki Salon car as first-place winner of the national awards, while Janet Agyemang Badu went away with a two-week vacation to Paris in addition to US$2,000 shopping money.

Kweku Essel, the third-place winner, got a plot of land in Agona Swedru plus GH¢10,000 as building support.

SUNU Assurances is currently the tenth-largest premium income earner in the country. Provisional figures released by the regulator - the National Insurance Commission - shows that its gross premium income as about GH¢40.5m in the 2018 accounting year.

Total assets in the year under review amounted to GH¢58.5m, with claims of about GH¢9.1m incurred during the year under review.
