General insurers improved gross premium earnings half year

The newest unaudited figures released recently by the National Insurance Commission – Insurance Industry Regulator recently for 29 general business underwriting companies recorded Gross Premium Income gains in the second quarter of the year. Indicated pointed to all underwriting companies doubling their incomes over the previous quarters income earned. By the close of the quarter in August, general insurers collected gross premium income of about GH¢832,250,777 as against GH¢ 445,999 in the first quarter of 2019. Earning position changed at the end of second quarter. Enterprise Insurance Company stretch its lead over the rest with an income of GH¢109,499,137 to control a market share of 13%. NIC holds workshop for branch managers

The National Insurance Commission (NIC) has held a workshop for branch managers, in a bid to improve insurance penetration in the country. The workshop, among other things, aims to help managers align their strategies to conform to dynamic conditions and the environment in which they operate in. At the event, participants were taken through efficient operational management and optimal marketing strategy via selling profitable products to meet sales target. The workshop, held in Elmina in the Central Region, was organised in partnership with the Ghana Insurance College. The three-day residential course held from 11 th  – 13 th  September, 2019 was fully sponsored by NIC. Resource persons for the workshop included Michael Kofi Andoh, Deputy Commissioner of Insurance; Seth Eshun, Head of Supervision-National Insurance Commission; Michael Abbiw, CEO - MGA Consulting Ghana Ltd; and Solomon Twum Barima, Chief Operation Officer at GLICO General.

QLAC CEO lifts Cup

The revamped Ghana Insurers Association games ended at the ultra-modern military sports complex located at Burma Camp a fortnight ago. About 10 different sporting activities were contested for. The sports contested for included – volleyball, ludo, arm-wrestling, scrabble, draught, tug-of-war, football, drumming (Jama), CEO’s football penalty shoot-out, as well as, ladies’ penalty shoot-out. At the end, Dr. Issah Anafure – CEO of Quality Life Assurance Company (QLAC), carried the day by scoring all his kicks. He was closely followed by Darlington Munhuwani - CEO of Allianz and Ernestina Abeh – Managing Director, Enterprise Insurance. A review by autoindustriya indicates that, the last time we tested the Isuzu D-Max, we billed it as a mixed-use workhorse. While the most comfortable, or refined choice among its peers, the D-Max endeared us with its rugged charm, as well as its capabilities. It was fine as it was even as if it didn't have the most powerful engine in its class but, regardless, Isuzu added a bit more zing to their pickup by giving it a new engine.
