Okor Waves supports residents of Ada-Foah




June 16, 2018 witnessed a great comfort to the people of Ada-Foah in the Ada East Municipal Assembly of Greater Accra Region with a free National Health Insurance Scheme registration exercise, medical screening and a mobile clinic for the both the young and old.

The exercise, which forms part of Okor Waves’ commitment under the leadership of Ms. Catherine Dela Dzivenu, to promote healthy living among residents of Ada East district and its surrounding communities, also featured a soccer gala, aimed at fostering unity in the area. The football gala played among four teams was won by the Ada-Foah Youth Club.

Elders of the community were very excited with the support they received in the form of health services and fun games, which gave them hope for the future. The impact of the exercise by Okor Waves was evident as the people of Ada showed immense gratitude.

Access to healthcare and treatment of patients has always been an issue of concern in some rural communities. This, coupled with the bureaucracy in issuing NHIS cards have made provision of healthcare a problem in the Ada area. You will either be shouted at by the healthcare professional or totally ignored – I have had a personal experience previously.
Thankfully, Ms. Catherine Dela and her Okor Waves group have brought some relief to the residents of Ada as a true a philanthropist, entrepreneur and lead patron.

“It is a fact that Ada is a tourist destination and the people of the Ada are facing some challenges one way or the other tremendously, and as a result more bad mouths are consuming each other - but not to the extent that it should deplete the lives of others.

It is also human greed and misbehaviour that is causing the rapid depletion of many lives of the people of the Ada East communities and we need to put measures in place to arrest the situation, or else our major source of living will be cut short and the health of our people will suffer commensurately,” she said.

Okor Waves, a non-governmental community development-oriented group, in the Ada East District of the Greater Accra Region under the leadership of Ms. Catherine Dela hosts several charitable events throughout the year.

In the past, Okor Waves has donated some mathematical sets to schools in rural communities; eight of which are around Kasseh and some few schools at Luhuese and Ada-Foah as well. Other activities since its inception have included a clean-up exercise for Ada-Foah Clinic, donation of items to the Ada East District Hospital to help care for the numerous patients among others plus ICT training have been carried out.

Maxwell Kpeglo, an elder of Ada-Foah community, said: “We don’t often see this kind of programme but with the greased elbow of Ms Catherine Dela and Okor Waves group, it has been a laudable event and we would want more of this because of its liveliness and development to the society.”

Since its inception in 2015, Okor Waves has been organising community and human centred projects for various communities in the Ada East District.  Also, to share the joy of Christmas last year, Ms. Catherine Dela helped usher the New Year with the less privileged in Aflive.

The event targeted the children in the community and ended up being a community party as adults could not resist the sumptuous meals, drinks and other ‘goodies’ given out to the children. The event was dubbed, “Help Feed a Child and Health Screening Campaign.”

This year, Okor Waves is looking forward to stakeholders and industry players, and youths of the Ada Traditional Area to render their support to such worthy course the group is putting in place to serve other communities.
