Cameroonians launch association in Accra

Cameroonians living in Ghana have come together to form an association called Cameroonian Association Resident in Ghana, Nungua (ARCAN) to unite and create a platform that will help them support one another away from home.

The association, which was launched in Nungua, a suburb of Accra, will address some of the challenges the Cameroonian community face in the country and find innovative ways to help them as there is no embassy or consulate present in Ghana to attend to their needs.

Speaking to the B&FT, President of the group, Leonardo Asu, highlighted the purpose of forming the association and encouraged all Cameroonians to join.

“This group has been formed to bring all Cameroonians together so that, together, we can address some of the problems we face while living here by channeling it to the government of Ghana.

Cameroon does not have a consulate in Ghana and so we find it difficult for the government to know what problems we face here. So, we feel if we establish an association, at least it will give us some recognition that will enable us approach the government with our problems,” he said.

Also present at the event was Lacasara, Afro-Fuji musician and Fashion Designer, who frequents Nigeria, Ghana and Cameroon for shows. He expressed delight about the formation of the association and said it will enhance friendship between Ghana and Cameroon.

He also thanked his fans who have always given him a warm and wonderful reception whenever he comes to Ghana to perform; and further thanked them for supporting his father’s funeral in Nigeria.
