MTN wins big at GHRIA 2019

Award winners at the event










MTN Ghana Limited, a leader in the telecommunication industry, has emerged the biggest winner at the 2019 Ghana Human Resource Innovation Awards (GHRIA) - beating Guinness Ghana Limited, Barclays Bank and Goldfields Ghana Limited.

MTN picked a total of six awards, five institutional and one individual award at the ceremony held at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel, on Friday February 22nd, 2019.

GHRIA - formerly the Ghana Top 50 HR Leaders Awards, is an annual celebration of leading human resources practitioners and organisations with top-notch HR models who have made sterling contributions to the corporate sector over the years.

MTN was adjudged Employer of the Year, HR Innovation of the Year (Telecom), Outstanding Employee Retention Policy, Excellence in Employee Engagement and HR Team of the Year (Gold).

The Human Resources Executive, MTN Ghana - Amma Benneh-Amponsah, was the biggest winner, walking away with the HR Personality of the Year award.  

The Chief Executive of Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), Dr. Edward Kwapong - speaking on behalf of the Minister of Employment and Labour Relations as the guest of honour, reiterated that the health of a nation lies in the quality of its human resources and their ability to exhibit the best skills of productivity when well managed.   

 “It is the job of HR Managers in both the private and public sector to ensure that the right number and calibre of skilled labour force is available to drive the achievement of our socio-economic goals.

“Ambitious restructuring and retooling of the nation’s education and training facilities are ongoing to facilitate production of the needed resources,” he said.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Akin Naphtal of Instinct Wave - organiser of the awards, said: “Human Resource units now play pivotal and strategic roles in sustaining organisational growth in a highly competitive global environment, but generally their impact is rarely celebrated or recognised in most organisations.

“The HR manager now wears multiple hats which vary from being an employee advocate, a change agent and strategic partner. Instinct Wave is lifting the veil to celebrate and honour HR practitioners as well as organisations which have demonstrated excellence in delivering best practices and innovation in the HR profession.”

Guinness Ghana Limited, Barclays Bank and Goldfields Ghana Limited all picked up three awards each.

 The CEO-Ghana Exim Bank, Lawrence Agyinsam, was adjudged the biggest winner from the public sector; “Gold Most People-focused CEO of the Year”.

The Driver and Vehicle Licencing Authority (DVLA), Volta River Authority (VRA), Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) all picked up awards for outstanding HR performances in the public sector.

Other winners from the private sector were: Melcom Group, Retail HR Innovation of the Year; Price Waterhouse Coopers, Professional Services HR of the Year; Broll Ghana, Real Estate HR Innovation of the Year; and Enterprise Group, Insurance HR Innovation of the Year.
