George Mensah, Managing Director-Ghana Reinsurance Company, has been nominated as Vice President of the West Africa Insurance Companies Association (WAICA). WAICA is the trade Association of all insurance companies in Anglophone West African countries.   The nomination is coming the heels of a request from the WAICA secretariat in Ghana for a Vice President to assist the current President, Saye Gbalazeh of Liberia, whose term expires in April 2022. B&FT learnt that at the end of Saye Gbalazeh’s tenure in April 2022, a fresh election will be conducted to nominate a president for the year’s Annual General Meeting and Conference, which all things being equal will be held in Accra, Ghana. Subsequently, going by WAICA’s constitution, the sitting Vice President automatically gets the presidential slot. This means that if the AGM moves to Ghana in 2022, George Mensah will definitely be president. George Yaw Mensah started his professional career in 1993 with Merrill Asset manageme

Queen Mother of Lashibi Traditional Area preaches peace and love

Image
Traditional leaders around the country have been admonished to embrace and preach peace and development at all times. The Queen Mother for Lashibi Traditional Area, Manye Naa Ojeabgo II, made this appeal at the launch of ‘The Interreligious Association for Peace and Development’ organised by the Universal Peace Federation in Accra recently. Speaking to the B&FT, Ojeagbo II - who is a Divisional Queen Mother of Nungua Traditional Council - said that for peace to grow, the youth must seriously be educated on why peace and development is the way to go rather than petty conflicts that could grow into riots. “Just as Chief Moomen, a founder of the association said: ‘Religious and traditional leaders are needed to bring hard work, love and passion to the country, and they should also work with the youth and the society at large’. So, therefore, for peace and development to grow, the youth of our land must be educated as to the reasons why peace must prevail now, before and after el

Can ‘okadas, aboboyaas’ be a game changer?

Lack of good roads coupled with heavy traffic in most cities had forced a lot of people to look for faster means to transport themselves. What come in handy are okadas (Motorbike) and aboboyaa ( Tricycle) as emergency transport service for quicker meet-time and delivery. With the reckless and lawless behaviour of some okadas and aboboyas riders on the roads of Accra, Kumasi and Takoradi, and even some other towns in Ghana, one is under the impression that they are above the law. They operate as if traffic laws were made for other road users and not them. I recently visited Bolgatanga, the capital of the Upper East Region, close to the border with Burkina Faso, and to my surprise motorist over there seem to obey traffic regulations and driving over there was fun. No reckless counter-crossing or heavy-handed driving. In most parts of the capitals, in Ghana, okadas and aboboyaas compete with heavy-duty trucks, high-capacity vehicles on the highways and even on main road lanes. One

Top vehicle makers to go all-out to against hackers

With the rise in use of internet for ride-sharing vehicles like Uber, Bolt, Dropyn, Yango and rest, the smarter cars are getting with use of technologies, the more exposed they are to the threats the technological world is struggling to deal with. Also, with some countries getting abreast with self-driving cars technology and all new technology-driven systems that require internet access, vehicles could easily become a target for cybercriminals in Africa and across the world, and companies involved in the automotive industry know this very well. As at now, there are already lots of semi-autonomous vehicles already on the roads that contain in-car computer systems, or electronic control units (ECU), which is responsible for safety functions such as detecting skids, predicting crashes and performing anti-lock braking systems. During the rise of the COVID pandemic in 2020, vehicle makers predicted that cars could become fully autonomous and manufacturers such as BMW have already created s

It’s nice and sober while giving a very good ride.  What can the picture attached to this article tell
