ASA provides Benim community with borehole



The ASA Savings and Loans Limited has constructed and handed over a borehole facility for the Mampong Benim community, in the Kwabre East Municipality of the Ashanti Region, as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities.

The Deputy Managing Director of ASA, Mr. Shah Abdul Wahab, said the company is committed to supporting on-going development, particularly within their catchment areas.
He noted that the CSR activities of ASA are “wide and varied supporting programs spanning education, health, scholarships, and women’s empowerment among others.

He disclosed that ASA’s ‘give back to the community campaign’ which they have been embarking upon since 2018 has reached over 75 communities and benefitted about 11,000 people, at the cost of $77,000.

The Deputy MD of ASA who was speaking at a short but colourful ceremony to commission the borehole project said the company budgeted $100,000 for its CSR programmes, for this year, 2019.

“The CSR programme includes providing mechanized boreholes for communities which lack access to clean and safe water, scholarship to needy but brilliant children, general health screening with free medicine, breast cancer screening, free distribution of mosquito nets, among others.”

As of October 2019, it was estimated that ASA has spent $82,000 for its CSR programme benefiting about 14,000 persons through 93 activities in various regions.

The commissioning of the project, at Benim, was also used to conduct a free medical health screening exercise, in collaboration with the Christ Soteria Clinic.

As part of the health screening exercise, the company also donated free mosquito nets while providing free medical supplies to the community members who underwent the medical examination.

The provision of the borehole in the Benim community is hoped will enable the people to access clean potable water, which will help improve overall health and sanitation for everyone.

The cost of the project and the health screening was estimated at GH₵21,000.
